Dordt College Men's Basketball vs. Grand View

(Des Moines, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender basektball team survived a overtime road victory over the Grand View Vikings in non-conference basketball Tuesday night in Des Moines, Iowa. The Defenders needed a late comeback to get their second win of the season.
The Defenders trailed early by a 14-6 mark but outscored the hosts 18-9 to take the lead at 24-23. The Defenders held on for a 30-28 halftime advantage.
Dordt controlled most of the second half, leading by as many as eight at 64-56. The Vikings refused to fade, mounting an attack with full court pressure defense and outscoring the Defenders 10-2. Marcus Thie made two-three pointers down the stretch and Todd Lorensen made a three-pointer as time expired to send the game to overtime. Mark Rowenhorst made a pair of free throws to give the Defenders the three-point cushion they needed to hold on for overtime.
In overtime the Vikings got another three-pointer from Thie to take the lead 73-72. The hosts pushed ahead 75-72 but a Logan Kingma three-pointer tied with under a minute remaining. Thie got fouled on the other end but converted just one to take a 76-75 lead. On Dordt's next possession the Defenders took a shot and missed but Kingma got a rebound and was fouled on the putback and converted both free throws with :08.6 remaining. After a timeout the Vikings got a shot in the lane as time expired with Lorensen taking the final shot again but this time the senior missed.
Dordt was led by Kingma's 25 points while Scott Van Zanten added 18. Brian Eekhoff added. Kingma led the Defenders with eight rebounds as Dordt outrebounded the Vikings 39-28. Derek Keizer had eight assists and three steals.
Todd Lorensen had 23 points and Marcus Thie 20 in the Vikings first loss in three outings. Dordt converted 25-27 free throws , making all six of their tries in overtime.
