(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender men's basketball team was able to fend off the Concordia Bulldogs in Great Plains Athletic Conference action at the De Witt Gym Saturday afternoon by a score of 81-69.

The Defenders pulled away from a 65-65 tie with 4:52 remaining when Brandon Haan hit a jumper and hit a free throw after he was fouled. The old-fashioned three point play ignited a nine point run that Concordia wasn't able to stop until the 1:33 mark. By that time the Defenders had control of the game and Concordia never got closer than seven.

Haan made 12-14 shots from the floor including a ten foot bank shot with the first half coming to an end to give Dordt a 34-33 intermission lead.

Haan had a career high 31 points while Luke Ruter added 16. Both players had six rebounds. Josh Boyer came off the bench to score 11 and Mark Rowenhorst, also playing a reserve role, came up with 10 points. Rowenhorst was filling in for an injured Derek Keizer. Scott Van Zanten had a team high eight rebounds while Jim Brinks contributed eight poitns and five rebounds.

Concordia was topped by the trio of Benjamin Buhr, Scott Beck and Joh Ziegler with 19, 17 and ten points respectively. All three played all 40 minutes for the Bulldogs with Ziegler dishing off nine assists and grabbing eight rebounds.
