Dordt College Men's Basketball vs. Grand View-Northwestern Classic

(Orange City, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender men's basketball team earned their second win at the Northwestern Red Raider Classic with a 68-51 win over Grand View (Iowa) on Friday night.

The Defenders led 19-13 and proceeded to outscore Grand View 15-2 to take a 34-15 advantage near the end of the first half. The Defenders held the Vikings scoreless for nearly seven minutes from the ten minute mark of the first half to about three minutes remaining.

Grand View, who knocked off the host Northwestern on Thursday night, was never able to mount a serious charge in the second half, falling by the eventual 68-51 count.

Luke Ruter had 17 points and six rebounds while shooting 5-8 from the floor. Scott Van Zanten added 14 points and Brandon Haan had 10 points and 10 rebounds. Derek Keizer dished out six assists to reach 300 for his career and moved to third all-time at Dordt College in that category.

Grand View placed one player in double figures with Marcus Thie hitting for 10.

Ruter was named MVP of the Classic for his efforts while BJ Haan was named to the all-Classic team.

The two teams will face each other again on Monday, January 9 in Sioux Center.
