Dordt College Men's Basketball vs. Trinity--Defender Gold Club Classic

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt Defenders overcame a slow start in tonight's second game of the Gold Club Classic against Trinity Christian (Illinios) and earned an 81-70 decision. The Defenders trailed by as many as 39-26 with under 3:00 remaining in the first half but scored ten straight to go into the half down 39-36.
The Defenders forged a narrow lead in the second half only to have the Trolls retake the advantage at 58-57. The Defenders answered with a bucket and never trailed again, extending a two point lead to the final margin of 11 with a late surge in the final 1:30.
Luke Ruter led Dordt with 22 points and seven rebounds and four assists. Scott Van Zanten added 13 while Eric Van Maanen came off the bench to score nine. Trinity was paced by Lawrence Weller with 17 points.
In the first game of the day Northwestern turned away Tabor by a final score of 87-63 and were led by Curt Schilling's 23 points.
