Dordt College Baseball vs. Dakota Wesleyan

(Mitchell, South Dakota) Dordt College lost an 8-3 decision to Dakota Wesleyan in game two of their doubleheader on Thursday night in Mitchell, South Dakota.
Dordt scored two in the first when the Defenders capitalized on two Dakota Wesleyan errors and scored on a fielder’s choice and ground out. The lone hit in the inning for the Defenders was a Cameron Gingerich single to lead off the frame.
Dakota Wesleyan scored two runs on a hit in the fourth inning with a Jared Neilan double knocking in two runs. Dordt’s Cameron Gingerich produced a run with a ground out that scored Rick Schmidt in the fifth inning as Dordt took a 3-2 lead.
The home half of the fifth inning produced five runs on four hits for the Tigers and then tacked on one more run in the eighth inning for the final of 8-3.
Dordt was outhit 11-3 with Schmidt, Gingerich and Jason Wapnick all knocking singles.
Josh Van Kekerix took the loss with six innings pitched and struck out two while surrendering nine hits and seven runs. Michael Grady came on in relief and allowed a run on two hits.
Dordt is now 11-27 overall and 4-14 in the GPAC while Dakota Wesleyan improved to 23-21 overall and 9-9 in the conference. Dordt will host Northwestern on Saturday, April 26 in the regular season finale for both teams.
