Dordt College Baseball vs. Dakota Wesleyan

(Mitchell, South Dakota) Dakota Wesleyan scored in at least one run in the first four innings and overcame a 4-2 deficit to win a 12-6 decision over Dordt College on Thursday in game one of their doubleheader in Mitchell, South Dakota.

Dordt scored three in the first inning with Nathan Forseth knocking in one run with single and Nathan Fraley plated two with a single. The Defenders had four hits in the inning and left two on base.

Dakota Wesleyan came back with two runs on a hit in the bottom of the first inning only to have Dordt score one in the top of the second when Andy Kollbaum grounded into a double play with the bases loaded.

Wesleyan scored on in the second and then scored four in the third inning on four hits. The hosts then added four more in the home half of the fourth for an 11-4 lead.

An Anthony Maule single scored a run in the fifth for Dordt and an error off a Jon Holwerda batted ball resulted in Jason Wapnick scoring to make the score 11-6.

The hosts capped the scoring with a run in the sixth.

Nathan Fraley was 3-4 with a run scored and two runs batted in. Fraley was a homerun short of hitting for the cycle with a single, double and triple. Cameron Gingerich and Jason Wapnick each had two hits and Holwerda, Maule, Nathan Forseth and Kollbaum all had a run batted in.

Ben Van Kekerix went two and two-third innings with seven hits and seven runs—four of them earned and walked two with two strikeouts. Cole Samuelson recorded the final out of the inning and Josh Peterson pitched the final three innings and was charged with a run on two hits and walked one with two strikeouts.
