Dordt College Baseball vs. Morningside
April 22, 2014
(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Morningside Mustangs reached base early and often and scored runs in the first five innings, defeating Dordt College by a 15-0 score in a single-game non-conference tilt.
The Mustangs took the lead in the top of the first on a wild pitch thrown by starting pitcher Tyler Wiedner. It turned out to be a precursor for the rest of the game as Morningside would tack on two runs in the second, one in the third, five in the fourth and six in the fifth.
Dordt didn’t help their own cause either. Defender pitchers walked nine batters in the game, and the defense committed four errors. Morningside compiled a total of 13 hits – all of them coming in the first five innings.
Andy Kollbaum and Anthony Maule each had a single for the Defenders.
Morningside’s Jacob Lamoreux went 3 for 3 with three RBIs before being pinch hit for in the fifth inning. Cole Halgerson also contributed two doubles, two walks and three runs scored for the Mustangs.
Doug Vanecek started the game for Morningside and pitched four scoreless innings.
The game was called after seven innings due to the 10-run rule.
