Dordt College Baseball vs. Midland

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Midland Warriors got a dominant performance from LHP Josh Johnson and clubbed 12 hits on their way to an 8-0 win over Dordt College in GPAC action.

Johnson struck out two and allowed six Dordt hits in his complete-game shutout. The Defenders never got a runner past second base against the southpaw, who did not walk a man.

The Warriors struck early against Dordt’s starting pitcher Josh Van Kekerix. Catcher Jordyn Van Atta delivered a two-run double during a four-run second inning that staked Midland to a 4-0 lead. Van Atta would finish the contest 3 for 3 with three doubles and an intentional walk.

Grant Giesselman and Cole Gray had RBIs in the second inning as well.

Dylan Steyer added an RBI single in the fifth inning before shortstop Vinnie Orsi broke the game wide open in the sixth. Orsi clubbed a three-run homer with two outs in the frame, his third home run of the year. Orsi’s blast made it 8-0, which would be the final score.

Van Kekerix left the game after five and two-thirds innings. The right-hander struck out one and allowed eight earned runs.

The loss dropped Dordt to 10-19 (3-8), while Midland improved to 30-13 (9-2).
