Dordt College Baseball vs. Hastings

(Hastings, Nebraska) A late rally by the Defenders wasn’t enough as they lost a 4-2 decision to Hastings on Friday in Hastings, Nebraska. The loss forced a split of the twinbill.
Hastings scored two in the third and two in the fourth of the scheduled nine inning battle. The two runs in the third were unearned as Hastings capitalized on three Dordt errors and one hit. Another two runs on two hits in the fourth inning for a 4-0 lead.
Dordt stranded two in the second and fifth before breaking through in the eighth inning with Jon Holwerda scoring on a double play with the bases loaded. Dordt tried to rally in the ninth on a Dane LePlatt single and Nathan Forseth reached on an error with two outs. Holwerda delivered a single that scored Le Platt but Forseth and Holwerda were left on base when a ground out ended the game.
Dordt was outhit 7-5 with Le Platt going 2-4 with a run scored. Holwerda was 2-3 with a run scored and an rbi. Aaron Parks had the other Dordt hit.
Lucas Carls was the starting pitcher and took the loss after allowing four runs—two of them earned and gave up five hits with five walks and two strikeouts. John Drenten pitched three innings of shutout ball and allowed two hits and struck out two.
Dordt is now 1-1 in the GPAC and 8-8 overall. Hastings is 7-13 overall and also 1-1 in the GPAC.
