Dordt College Baseball vs. Hastings

(Hastings, Nebraska) The Dordt College Defender baseball team overcame an early 2-0 deficit, scoring eight unanswered runs at one point, to take an 8-4 decision in game one of their doubleheader at Hastings College in Hastings, Nebraska on Friday night, March 28.
The hosts got to Dordt starter Ben Van Kekerix for two runs in the bottom of the second on three hits. The Defenders answered with a two-out rally in the top of the third to cut the lead to 2-1. Nathan Fraley doubled after the first two batters of the inning grounded out and Jake Thayer delivered a single that scored Fraley.
The visitors took the lead for good in the fifth inning when Dane Le Platt doubled and Jon Holwerda singled to put runners on first and third with one out. A ground out by Fraley to the second baseman got a run in and advanced Holwerda to second. Holwerda eventually got to third and scored on a fielding error that got the Defenders in front 3-2.
Nathan Forseth singled in a run in the sixth and a passed ball got Jason Wapnick in. Forseth eventually scored on a fielding error for a 6-2 lead and Dordt got two more in the top of the seventh. Back to back walks to Cameron Gingerich and Aaron Parks started the threat and after a sacrifice bunt by Andy Kollbaum , Wapnick pushed the runner across with a ground out to the right side. Forseth delivered a single that scored a run and ended the Dordt scoring.
Hastings scored two runs on four hits in the seventh inning as Dordt secured the 8-4 win for their eighth win of the season.
Ben Van Kekerix was the winning pitcher with six innings of work and walked one with seven strikeouts and allowed five hits. Michael Grady worked the seventh inning.
Dordt outhit the hosts 11-9. Forseth was 2-4 with two runs batted in and a run scored. Le Platt had two hits—one of them a double and Holwerda was 2-4 as well. Aaron Parks was 1-3 with two runs. Fraley had the only other extra base hit for the Defenders, a double and scored a run with a run batted in.
