Dordt College Baseball vs. Concordia-St. Paul

(Tucson, Arizona) The Dordt College baseball team lost an 18-5 decision to Concordia-St. Paul on Wednesday, March 12 at Tucson, Arizona in non-conference play.
The Defenders allowed four in the top of the first and got one back in the bottom of the inning with Jason Wapnick getting Jake Thayer in after he singled to lead off the inning and stole second base to get in scoring position.
The two teams went scoreless in the second inning before Concordia-St. Paul got three more on two hits and an error in the third. Dordt got one back in the bottom of the third with Wapnick again knocking a run in, pushing Cameron Gingerich across with a single.
Concordia added three more in the fourth, one in the fifth, four in the seventh, one in the eighth and two in the ninth before Dordt scored two in the home half of the ninth on two hits, one of them a two run single by Gingerch and a double by Nathan Fraley.
Dordt was outhit 17-7 with Gingerich and Wapnick both getting a pair of singles. Fraley’s double was the only extra base hit for Dordt. Alex Schoonhoven reached twice by walk and scored a run and Jake Thayer each had two runs scored.
Tyler Wiedner went the first three innings and allowed seven runs on five hits with five walks. Joseph Montgomery came on in relief and pitched two innings and allowed four runs and Jake Thayer went three innings and struck out four and allowed seven hits. Dordt was hampered by 19 walks.
The Defenders are 6-3 and will face Valley City State on Thursday in Tucson, Arizona.
