Dordt College Baseball vs. Morningside

(Sioux City, Iowa (Lewis and Clark)) Morningside scored a run in the first and three each in the fifth and sixth innings and went on to beat Dordt 7-3 in the nightcap of their twinbill in Sioux City, Iowa. The decision forced a split of the first GPAC doubleheader of the season for both teams.

Dordt didn't help their own cause with four fielding errors and they got five unearned runs in the contest.

Dordt got on the board with three in the bottom of the seventh. Sam De Nooy and Mark Lyzenga each had singles with two outs. An error on Lyzenga's hit allowed De Nooy to score and Aaron Parks knocked a run in with his third hit of the game. A Bryan Wallman double got Dordt's third run in and Morningside secured the 7-3 win.

Dordt's Mark Nyhoff took the loss after allowing four runs on five hits in four and a third innings with three walks and a strikeout. Josh Van Kekerix worked an inning and was charge with three runs and John Drenten closed the game on the mound with an inning and two-thirds of work and walked one while giving up no runs and no hits.

Dordt was outhit 8-6 with Parks going 3-3 with three singles. De Nooy and Lyzenga each had singles and Wallman a double.

Dordt is 1-1 in GPAC play and will face Mount Marty on Saturday. Dordt is 3-8 overall. Morningside is 1-1 in the GPAC as well.
