(Orange City, Iowa) Dordt College was unable to hold off the Northwestern Red Raiders in Great Plains Athletic Conference baseball as they fell 5-4 in 10 innings to the eventual GPAC Champion.

Northwestern scored one run each in the second and third innings to lead 2-0 before Dordt struck for three runs in the fourth. Jon Holwerda walked and Aaron Parks reached on an error with one out in the inning and Dustin Brisel delivered a double that scored both runners. Moments later Nick Serrato singled and a throwing error allowed Brisel to score from second for a 3-2 lead.

Both teams went scoreless in the fifth and sixth innings with Dordt getting a runner thrown out at home plate in the fifth inning on an attempted double steal with runners at first and third.

Northwestern manufactured a run in the bottom of the seventh when their lead off batter walked and was sacrificed over. A single with one out tied the game and the contest went to extra frames.

Dordt got a run in the top of the inning with Jon Holwerda singling to lead off the inning. Anthony Maule ran for Holwerda and made it as far as third base when Alex Bluhm singled down the leftfield line to give Dordt a 4-3 lead. The Red Raiders responded by getting runners at the corners with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning. Erik Widener hit a grounder to the middle that Aaron Parks, Dordt's shorstop was able to glove. Parks stepped on second for an out and fired to first for a double play to end the game but Widener's dive was ruled ahead of the throw and the run scored for from third to tie the game.

Dordt stranded runners at first and second in the top of the ninth and Northwestern left the bases loaded in the home half of the ninth after getting them full with one out.

Dordt was retired in order in the tenth. Northwestern got runners at second and third with one out and after an intentional walk to get a double play in order, Josh Van Kekerix hit Corey Van Gorp with a pitch that forced the run in to end the game.

Both teams had eight hits with Serrato getting two singles and an rbi. Brisel's double was Dordt's lone extra base hit and he knocked in two runs.

Van Kekerix took the loss as he worked in relief of Lucas Carls and allowed two runs on two hits with six walks. Carls went seven innings and struck out one and walked one with six hits.

Northwestern got two hits each from Mitch Peschon and Taylor Morris. Tyler Stuhrman pitched eight innings and gave up four runs--one of them earned and walked two with five strikeouts. Josh Turner came on in relief and got the win working a scoreless ninth and tenth innings.
