Dordt College Baseball vs. Mount Marty

(Sioux Center, Iowa) A rally fell just short for the Dordt Defenders on Tuesday night in game two of their doubleheader with the Mount Marty Lancers in non-conference play. The Defenders plated two runs in the bottom of the seventh but stranded two runners at second and third at the end of the game and lost 5-4.
Dordt got its first run of the game on a throwing error that allowed Davis Fenchel to score and Jon Holwerda followed with a sacrifice fly that scored Nate Fraley from third base.
Mount Marty countered with two runs in the fourth and took the lead in the fifth. The damage could have been greater in the fifth as the Lancers had the bases loaded with one out but John Drenten, working in relief of Aaron Parks, was able to get the final two outs before Mount Marty could score again.
The Lancers did get two runs on three hits in the top of the sixth for a 5-2 lead. Dordt mounted a rally with Caleb Bohler singling and Nathan Fraley followed with an rbi double. Jon Holwerda singled in Fraley to make it 5-4 and Dustin Brisel was able to reach on an error to put runners at first and second. Dordt went to pinch runners with Jason Wapnick running for Holwerda and Alex Bluhm ran for Brisel. Dordt executed a double steal to get runners to second and third but a Nick Serrato ground out finished the game.
Fraley had two hits-- a single and a double and the Defenders were outhit 8-6. Aaron Parks took the loss and worked four and a third innings and struck out two and walked one. John Drenten pitched two and two -third innings and allowed two runs on three hits with one strikeout.
Mount Marty's Brandon Bainbridge took the win after going six innings and struck out five and walked five with three hits allowed. Bryton Carlson got the save in recording the final two outs.
Dordt is 5-18 overall and will face Briar Cliff on Friday in GPAC play. Mount Marty is now 14-20.
