Dordt College Baseball vs. Mount Marty

(Sioux Center, Iowa) Mount Marty came from behind to defeat Dordt College in game one of their doubleheader on Tuesday night, April 16 in non-conference baseball action. Dordt led on two occasions but three runs in the top of the seventh won it for Mount Marty 5-3.
Dordt's first run came across when Jason Wapnick singled in Jon Holwerda but the Defenders left the bases loaded, stranding their seventh runner of the first three frames in the process.
Mount Marty struck for two runs on three hits in the fifth inning but the Defenders had an answer when Wapnick delivered a double that scored Anthony Maule who was running for Dustin Brisel. Alex Bluhm followed with a base hit that scored Wapnick from second and the Defenders were up 3-2.
Dordt was poised to win the game when they got two outs on Mount Marty in the top of the seventh but the Lancers had Zach Hollenback at third base. Down to their final strike, the Lancers got a bloop single down the right field line that stayed fair off the bat of Bryton Carlson to tie the game. Mount Marty added two more runs and retired the Defenders in order in the bottom of the seventh inning to preserve the win.
Dordt was outhit 10-8 and Ryan De Wit took the loss after going six and two-third innings with two walks and 10 hits allowed. Brian Bartlett got the win while working the final two and two-third innings and struck out one and walked one.
Dustin Brisel and Jason Wapnick had two hits each and Wapnick had pair of runs batted in with a run scored.
