Dordt College Baseball vs. Concordia

(Seward, Nebraska) The Dordt College Defender baseball team got out to a 5-0 lead after an inning and a half but the Concordia Bulldogs scored the next six runs to take a 6-5 decision and force a split of the doubleheader in Seward, Nebraska.
Dordt got a run in the first with Nate Fraley singling and he stole a base. Jon Holwerda then knocked him in with a single for a 1-0 lead.
Dordt scored four runs in the second inning with two outs. Dane Le Platt led the inning off with a single and the next two batters were retired. A Bryan Wallman single scored Le Platt and Jason Wapnick doubled Wallman in. Fraley followed with a triple for another run and scored when Jon Holwerda singled.
Concordia started chipping away at the lead with a run in the second and then came up with three in the third frame on five hits and they got two more in the fourth to take the lead.
Dordt had the tying run at second in the sixth inning but couldn't mount a serious threat.
Dordt outhit the hosts 10-9 and got a 3-4 day at the plate from Fraley with two runs scored and one run batted in. Holwerda as 3-4 with two runs batted in and Bryan Wallman was 2-3.
Lucas Carls took the loss for Dordt after working three and a third innings and was charged with six runs--five of them earned. He walked one and struck out two. Josh Van Kekerix pitched two and two-third innings and allowed one hit and struck out one.
Joe Brandenburg was the winning pitcher for Concordia and struck out six over five innings of play.
Dordt is 5-14 overall and 3-7 in the GPAC while Concordia is now 4-6 in the conference and 11-17 overall. Dordt will travel to Lincoln, Nebraska on Monday for a GPAC doubleheader.
