Dordt College Baseball vs. Nebraska Wesleyan

(Lincoln, Nebraska) The Dordt College Defenders surrendered a run in the bottom of the ninth inning with Nebraska Wesleyan in baseball in Lincoln, Nebraska and fell by a final of 2-1 in game one of the doubleheader.
The two teams played the game as evenly as could be with both getting ten hits and one error. The three pitchers combined for just three bases on balls issued and two wild pitches.
The hosts got on the board with a run on two hits in the fourth inning when JJ Thaut knocked in a run with a single. Wesleyan had stranded two runners in the previous inning.
Dordt got the equalizer in the sixth when Nathan Fraley doubled and scored when Jon Holwerda put down a bunt and reached with Fraley scoring on the ensuing throwing error.
Mark Nyhoff worked into the eighth inning before leaving with runners on first and third and one out. Josh Van Kekerix came on in relief and got the first batter he faced to line out into a double play at first base.
In the ninth the Defenders mounted a threat with Dustin Brisel singling to lead off the inning. A sacrifice bunt later the Defenders had a runner at second and Mark Lyzenga singled up the middle. Sam De Nooy, running for Brisel, was thrown out at the plate for the second out of the inning. A single later the Defenders had runners at first and second but a strikeout concluded the frame.
A bases loaded single with one out in the bottom of the ninth won the game for the Prairie Wolves.
Dordt's Josh Van Kekerix took the loss while Nyhoff went seven and a third innings and allowed one run on seven hits and struck out nine while walking two. Van Dyke got the win for Nebraska Wesleyan with 10 hits and six strikeouts and he went the distance.
Fraley, Brisel, Lyzenga and Andy Kollbaum accounted for two hits each and Holwerda and Aaron Parks had one. Fraley's double was the lone extra base hits of the game for either team.
