Dordt College Baseball vs. Mount Marty

(Yankton, South Dakota) Dordt College lost a 7-6 decision in game two of its doubleheader with Mount Marty in Yankton on Saturday, March 30. The Defenders surrendered a six run fifth inning that turned a 4-1 deficit into a 7-4 advantage for the home team. Dordt got two back in the sixth but stranded runners at second and third as the inning ended, eventually allowing Mount Marty to preserve the win.
Dustin Brisel and Andy Kollbaum delivered run scoring hits in the third. Brisel's knock was a single and Kollbaum's was a double for a 2-0 lead.
Mount Marty got a run in the fourth inning but Dordt answered with two in the fifth when Aaron Parks clubbed a homerun for a 4-1 lead.
Six runs on four hits and three errors in the fifth gave the Lancers the lead for good, chasing Dordt starter Jake Slings from the game in the process. Slings was charged with five runs for the game and Josh Van Kekerix took over and went the final inning and two-thirds and was charged with two runs on two hits.
Dordt got two runs back in the sixth with Parks knocking in a run with single and Brisel had a sacrifice fly.
Dordt outhit the Lancers 12-7 and stranded nine. Slings was charged with the loss and struck out two and walked a pair.
Nate Fraley had two hits and two runs scored in the loss with a pair of stolen bases. Nick Serrato, Aaron Parks, Andy Kollbaum and Jon Holwerda all had two hits as well with Parks knocking in three runs. Kollbaum had a pair of doubles and Parks had his homerun.
Dordt is now 1-3 in the GPAC and 3-10 overall. Mount Marty is 3-1 and holds a 9-13 record.
Dordt will host Hastings and Doane on April 5 and 6 in Sioux Center.
