Dordt College Baseball vs. Mount Marty

(Yankton, South Dakota) A Mount Marty run in the bottom of the ninth broke a 2-2 deadlock and gave the Lancers a 3-2 win over Dordt in game one of their doubleheader in Yankton, South Dakota on Saturday, March 30.
Dordt scored an unearned run in the first inning when Dustin Brisel lifted a sacrifice fly that scored Nathan Fraley from third. Fraley had reached on an error to open the game. Mount Marty took a 2-1 lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first.
Dordt tied the game with Jon Holwerda tripled and scored on a Mark Lyzenga ground out. The two teams played scoreless baseball for the next six frames. The Defenders stranded two runners in the fourth and Mount Marty left runners on in the seventh and eighth innings.
Dordt had a baserunner in the top of the ninth but a double play got the hosts out of the inning. The Lancers then ended the game in the bottom of the ninth with a solo homerun by Kyler Pekarek off of Dordt reliever Jeremy Engbers to win the game.
Lucas Carls started the game and went eight innings for Dordt with four strikeouts, four walks and five hits allowed. Brisel, Holwerda and Lyzenga accounted for Dordt's three hits.
Cassidy Key-Darlington went the distance for Mount Marty and allowed two runs on three hits with 11 strikeouts.
