Dordt College Baseball vs. Southwest Minnesota State

(Tucson, Arizona) Dordt College dropped a 5-3 decision in a nine inning game on Friday, March 15 in Tucson, Arizona.

The Defenders fought from behind to tie it at 1-1 and 3-3 again the top of the sixth but couldn't hold off the Mustangs as they came through with two in the bottom of the sixth.

Dordt's first run came when Nate Fraley singled with an out in the third inning and he advanced to third on a base hit by Jason Wapnick. Fraley then scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of Andy Kollbaum. Southwest Minnesota scored one in the fourth and another fifth for a 3-1 lead.

Dordt evened the score with Bryan Wallman singling up the middle to score a run and Jason Wapnick walked with the bases loaded to get a tying run in.

The Mustangs struck for two unearned runs in the sixth inning off Jake Slings who was on in relief of Lucas Carls and that ended up being the difference as Dordt stranded runners in the seventh and ninth innings.

Dordt was outhit 12-6 with six different Defenders getting singles. Carls started the game and went five innings and allowed three runs on eight hits with five strikeouts and one walk. Jake Slings absorbed the loss while giving up four hits and striking out six in the final three innings.
