Dordt College Baseball vs. Concordia (WI)
March 16, 2012
(Chandler, Arizona) The Dordt College baseball team improved to 5-8 this baseball season with a 9-2 win over Concordia (Wisconsin) on Friday, March 16 in the finale of the team's trip to Arizona for spring break. Ben Van Kekerix pitched five shutout innings and Mark Nyhoff went the final four in preserving the win.
A Nick Serrato sacrifice fly broke the ice for the Defenders in the third and Dordt followed that with a four run fourth inning. Jason Wapnick delivered a run scoring double while Nate Fraley and Serrato each had singles to push in runs. The fourth run scored on a wild pitch. An unearned run in the seventh made it 6-2 for Dordt and three runs in the eighth made the final 9-2. Eric Anderson provided a two run single and Josh Peterson had a run scoring hit as well in the eighth frame.
Dordt had a 10-9 hit advantage with Fraley, Eric Torgerson and Wapnick all getting credit for a pair of hits. Van Kekerix got the win while walking no one, striking out four and allowing two hits. Nyhoff was charged with two runs on seven hits and struck out two.
