(Chandler, Arizona) Dordt lost a 5-2 decision to Springfield (Mass.) on March 14 in Arizona.

The game was a single, nine inning contest which Dordt led 2-1 after five innings. Springfield scored one in the seventh and three more in the bottom of the eighth to take the final of 5-2.

Dordt's first run came in the top of the first when Nathan Fraley walked to start the inning and stole second. Fraley then scored when Jon Holwerda's groundout was misplayed by the third baseman, allowing Fraley to score. Dordt left a runner stranded at second when the inning ended.

Springfield got a run on two hits in the fourth inning to tie the contest but Dordt got the run back with an Aaron Parks triple followed by an Eric Torgerson sacrifice fly. The Defenders missed on another multiple run inning when they stranded a runner at second.

A bases loaded doubleplay got Springfield out of trouble in the sixth and they took advantage, eventaully tying the game in the seventh on a run and two hits--taking advantage of a Dordt error to get an unearned run and Springfield won it with a three-run homerun in the eighth inning.

The Defenders threatened in the ninth, loading the bases with two outs but a groundout ended the inning.

Brad Trimm took the loss while working seven plus innings. He left the game with one on in the bottom of the eighth inning and was charged with the third run of the game on the homerun surrendered by Ryan De Wit. Trimm allowed three runs on seven hits.

Eric Anderson had two hits for the Defenders while Dustin Brisel and Travis Dekkers each had a base hit in Dordt's only game of the day.

Dordt is now 3-8 while Springfield improves to 4-1.
