Dordt College Baseball vs. Concordia

(Sioux Center, Iowa) Concordia took a split of their doubleheader with Dordt College on Saturday afternoon, April 14 in Sioux Center for an 8-1 win. Concordia scored three in the second inning and then tacked one one in the fifth, one in the sixth and three more in the seventh. Dordt got a run in the sixth to make it 5-1 at the time and missed out on an even bigger inning when they left the bases loaded.
The Defenders allowed three runs on three hits and two errors in the second inning--all of the runs in that frame were unearned. After the three run inning Jake Slings pitched two scoreless innings and the score was still 3-0 in the fifth when Concordia got another unearned run. Dordt's run came after Concordia scored another run in the sixth. Dordt broke up Michael Hodges no-hit bid with back to back singles by Nic Serrato and Travis Dekkers, loading the bases. After two batters were retired, pinch hitter Josh Peterson was hit by a pitch, making it 5-1 but three runs in the top of the seventh made it a final of 12-2.
Dordt was outhit 12-2 with Jake Slings taking the loss in six and a third innings and allowed 10 hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Michael Hodges took the win with seven strikeouts, two walks and two hits allowed.
Dordt is now 11-23 overall and 2-10 in the GPAC. Concordia is 20-21 and 5-5 in league play.
