Dordt College Baseball vs. Valley City State

(Chandler, Arizona (Snedigar Field #4)) The Dordt College Defender baseball team allowed a six run fifth inning and lost a 7-3 decision to Valley City State on Monday, March 14 in game one of their doubleheader. The loss drops the Defenders to 1-4 for the season.
Dordt got a run in the third inning when Sam De Nooy doubled to lead off the inning and scored on a Travis Dekkers single with two outs in the frame. The Defenders squandered an opportunity for a bigger inning when they left the bases loaded.
Valley City State banged out six runs in the fifth inning, taking advantage of five hits and one error for a 6-1 lead. A single run in the fifth inning pushed the difference to 7-1.
Dordt scored two in the seventh inning on a Zach Staudt double with two outs for the final of 7-3.
Jake Slings took the loss after working into the fourth inning. He allowed two runs on three hits and struck out two before being lifted with one out in the fifth inning. Travis Dekkers had three hits for the Defenders and Zach Staudt, Sam De Nooy and Eric Torgerson had extra base hits for Dordt with a double each. Torgerson was 2-3 at the plate.
