Dordt College Baseball vs. Northwestern

(Sioux Center, Iowa) Northwestern took an 8-0 decision over the Dordt Defenders in non-conference baseball on Monday in Sioux Center. The game, scheduled to go nine innings, was called after five innings due to steady rain.
Northwestern scored two in the first inning and then came up with four runs in the second inning off Dordt starter Ryan Baas. All of the runs in the second for Northwestern were unearned with Dordt committing a costly three errors. Steve Englund struck for a two run homerun to cap the frame.
Northwestern tacked on one more run in each of the fourth and fifth innings before the game was called.
Dordt's best scoring chance came in the third when Eric Anderson and Brandon Van Engen both singled and were stranded at second and third when the inning came to a close.
Dordt was outhit 9-3 with Eric Torgerson accounting for Dordt's other basehit.
Northwestern got two hits each from Davis Bloemendaal, Englund and Corey Van Gorp.
Ryan Baas took the loss after working the first two innings. Brad Vande Griend and Jake Slings worked two and one inning respetively with each allowing two runs. Northwestern's Drew Nonnemacher got the win for Northwestern while striking out three and walking none.
