Dordt College Baseball vs. Dakota Wesleyan

(Sioux Center, Iowa) Dordt College fought from behind the entire game in a 7-5 loss to the Dakota Wesleyan Tigers in game two of the doubleheader in Sioux Center on Thursday night.
Wesleyan got to Dordt starter Brad Vande Griend for three runs in the first inning but the Defenders cut the gap to 3-2 when Morgan Halpert singled and Ryan Bridgewater singled to advance Halpert to third. An errant pickoff attempt allowed Halpert to score and Bridgewater went all the way to third and eventually scored on a wild pitch.
Wesleyan struck for two runs in the third while Dordt scored one each in the fourth and fifth when Morgan Halpert and Patrick Sinnema each singled. A passed ball got the runners to second and third in the fourth frame and Halpert scored on a ground out by Josh Mouw. Alex Frankl, running for Eric Torgerson, scored on a wild pitch in the fifth to make it 5-4.
Again Wesleyan had an answer, getting two runs in for a 7-4 lead and Dordt got one back in the sixth on three hits by Brandon Van Engen, Eric Anderson and Travis Dekkers. All three got their hits with two outs and Dekkers hit produced the run. The Defenders got no more and left two runners on. Wesleyan's Eric Opsahl worked a 1-2-3 inning in the seventh for the save.
For the second straight game Dordt outhit the Tigers but came up short. Dordt had ten hits with Dekkers getting a double and two singles. Morgan Halpert and Eric Anderson each had two hits and Halpert scored twice.
Joey Fitzgerald got the win while Vande Griend took the loss. Jeremy Engbers pitched two and a third innings and allowed one hit and two runs. Ryan De Wit pitched the final inning and two-thirds and allowed one hit with two strikeouts.
Dordt is 3-29 and 2-18 in the GPAC and will conclude its season on Saturday at Northwestern.
