Dordt College Baseball vs. Sioux Falls

(Sioux Center, Iowa) Dordt College allowed five early runs in their game with Sioux Falls on Wednesday night in Sioux Center and couldn't overcome the early deficit in falling by a final of 5-3 in the opener of the doubleheader.
Sioux Falls scored two in the first on three hits and tacked on two more in the second inning for a 5-0 lead. Dordt got one run back in the top of the third when Phillip Sears doubled in Josh Mouw who reached initially on an error and stole second base to get in scoring position.
Dordt got two in during the sixth inning with Eric Torgerson working for a bases loaded walk and a Pat Sinnema got another urn in on a fielder's choice. Sioux Falls helped the Dordt cause in that frame with two errors but the Defenders stranded two before they could do further damage.
Dordt got the tying run on in the seventh inning but couldn't move the runners around with two outs.
Jake Slings pitched four innings of scoreless baseball in relief while allowing one hit and two walks with one strikeout. Mark Nyhoff took the loss, allowing five hits and five runs in two innings of work.
Travis Dekkers was 3-4 at the plate with one run scored while Phillip Sears, Zach Staudt and Eric Anderson had Dordt's three other hits. Both teams had six hits.
Cody Nichols got the win for the Cougars, allowing three hits in five innings with one strikeout.
