Dordt College Baseball vs. Briar Cliff

(Sioux Center, Iowa) Dordt College got timely hitting in the sixth inning of a 3-2 win over the Briar Cliff Chargers in game two of their doubleheader on Wednesday night in Sioux Center. The win by the Defenders gave them a split of the twinbill.
Briar Cliff got a run in the second and another in the sixth to take a 2-0 lead on the Defenders.
Dordt staged their comeback in the sixth when Sam De Nooy was hit by a pitch to lead off. Brandon Van Engen singled and De Nooy advanced to third base. Morgan Halpert was retired and Travis Dekkers followed with a single that scored De Nooy and advanced Van Engen to second. After a strikeout, Dordt sent Eric Torgerson to the plate. A wild pitch advanced the runners to second and third and on an 0-2 pitch Torgerson hit a grounder through the left side of the infield. Dekkers slid in just in front of the tag for the 3-2 lead.
Patrick Sinnema worked a 1-2-3 inning in the seventh to preserve the complete game win for his first victory of the season.
Both teams had five hits. Sinnema was charged with two unearned runs and walked one with four strikeouts. Gary Davis took the loss in five and two-thirds innings of work with one walk and eight strikeouts.
Dekkers had one hit with a run scored and a run batted in while Torgerson got credit for two runs batted in. Van Engen, Staudt and Lucas Carls had the other singles for Dordt.
Briar Cliff is 13-27 overall and 6-10 in the GPAC while Dordt is 3-24 and 2-14 in the league. Dordt is scheduled to host Sioux Falls on Thursday, April 21.
