Dordt College Baseball vs. Midland

(Sioux Center, Iowa) A seven run fourth inning gave the Midland Warriors enough offense to take an 11-7 decision over Dordt College in game one of their doubleheader in Sioux Center, Iowa on Saturday, April 8. The Defenders fought back to make it interesting but couldn't get closer than four over the final three innings in the loss.
Midland scored an unearned run in the first inning with Jurgensen scoring after reaching on an error. Dordt struck back wtih a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning with Morgan Halpert working for a walk and Travis Dekkers doubled. Zach Staudt then knocked the two in with a single to centerfield for a 2-1 lead.
The two teams traded three run third innings with Midland getting theirs on three hits and one error while Dordt countered with a Staudt run scoring single and Travis Dekkers scored on a balk. Taylor Wyatt pushed a grounder to the right side of the infield to get Staudt in from third and Dordt had a 5-4 lead.
Midland came right back in the fourth, piling up six hits in the inning with seven runs. The big blos was a Kampschneider three-run homerun that helped chase starting pitcher Jake Slings from the game.
Dordt managed to get two runs back in the fifth when Staudt singled in Morgan Halpert and Dekkers scored on an error by the Midland shortstop on a two-out grounder. The two teams played scoreless baseball in the sixth and seventh for the final of 11-7.
Dordt was outhit 13-10. Jake Slings took the loss while allowing ten runs on nine hits with four strikeouts and one base on balls. Mark Nyhoff pitched the final three innings and gave up two hits with a strikeout while holding Midland scoreless. Jeremy Engbers pitched in relief in the fourth inning and was charged with a run while recording three outs.
Travis Dekkers and Zach Staudt each went 3-4 with Dekkers scoring three and Staudt knocked in four. Morgan Halpert reached three times and scored all three times and Brandon Van Engen was 2-3 at the plate. Matt Trejo got the win for Midland while working four innings and striking out three with nine hits and seven runs allowed.
