Dordt College Baseball vs. Doane

(Sioux Center, Iowa) A six run eruption in the sixth inning broke open a 2-0 contest and allowed the Doane Tigers to earn a GPAC baseball sweep over the Defenders with an 8-0 win.
Dordt was outhit 10-2 in the loss with Doane getting their first two runs off a homerun by Michael Albert in the second inning. Eric Torgerson battled for the Defenders on the mound and kept the score at 2-0 going into the sixth inning when Doane finally broke through for insurance. An Anthony Dunn inside the park homerun opened the scoring when his line drive went into the leftfield corner and Zach Staudt, Dordt's outfielder, slipped and got his leg caught under the fence, preventing him from getting the ball back into the infield. A double and single followed, forcing Torgerson from the game. The Tigers kept the pressure on and ended up scoring six runs on seven hits to put the game away.
Dordt got a double from Travis Dekkers, his 100th career base hit as a Defender and TJ Wells got his first basehit for Dordt to account for Dordt's pair of hits. Dekkers is the 14th Defender all-time to record at least 100 career hits.
Nathan Ross got the win, working six innings and struck out seven. Eric Torgerson took the loss in working five-plus innings and allowed five runs on five hits with six bases on balls issued;. Brad Trimm worked the final two innings and gave up five hits for the Defenders with three runs.
Mike Albert was 3-4 with four runs batted in for the Tigers and Dylan Flott had two hits.
Dordt slips to 1-15 and 0-6 in the league while Doane is 20-8 and 6-0. Dordt will travel to Morningside for a non-conference game on Tuesday, April 5 in its next outing.
