Dordt College Baseball vs. Grace (Indiana)
March 16, 2010
(Clearwater, Florida) Dordt College's comeback attempt in the seventh inning of their game with Grace (Indiana) came up short in a 5-3 loss in Florida on Tuesday, March 16.
The Defenders took a 1-0 lead after two innings when Josh Bowers doubled to lead off the inning and Travis Dekkers delivered a single to put runners at the corners. A Nathan Fraley fly out scored the run. Grace got four runs in the third when they capitalized on three hits and one error but the damage could have been worse as they left the bases full. Grace got another run in the fifth for a 5-1 lead.
A scoreless sixth inning ensued with Dordt coming alive in the seventh inning. Morgan Halpert walked and Alex Brown singled to start the frame. A Jake Slings single loaded the bases and one out later Kyle Davis reached on an error, scoring a run in the process. Tony Asta followed with a single for another run to make it 5-3 with the bases loaded but a double play got Grace out of trouble and ended the game.
Dordt out-hit Grace 7-5 with Josh Bowers getting a pair of hits and five other players each had a base knock. Bowers had Dordt's only extra base hit, a double and the Defenders stranded seven runners. Tony Asta took the loss in working five-plus innings and gave up five runs--four of them earned and he struck out three with six walks.
