Dordt College Baseball vs. Trinity Christian

(Clearwater, Florida) The Dordt Defender baseball team scored a come from behind win over Trinity in non-conference baseball played at Jack Russell Field in Clearwater, Florida by a 9-8 final. The Defenders had to come from 8-3 down entering the bottom of the fifth inning to get the win.
Dordt got one run each in the first, second and third innings with Josh Bowers singling in Travis Dekkers in the first and Nathan Fraley scored on a wild pitch in the second. Tony Asta singled in Kyle Davis in the third and the Defenders led 3-1.
The two run lead held until the top of the fifth when the Defenders gave up seven runs on four hits and one error. The Defenders then erupted for five runs of their own in the bottom of the inning all with two outs. Four walks and two errors later the Defenders had three runs in and Alex Brown delivered a two runs single that scored Fraley and Trey Schneider. Dordt got the go ahead run in the bottom of the sixth with Kyle Davis hitting a single to lead the inning off. He then advanced to second on a Jared Rayes sacrifice. Tony Asta delivered a two-out single to give Dordt the lead and the Defenders held on in the Trinity seventh with Asta getting the win, recording a strikeout for the final out of the game with runners on second and third.
Dordt was out hit 10-9 and recorded five unearned runs. Dordt used four pitchers to get the win with Bryan Diemer starting the game and going four inings while allowing six hits and three runs. Ryan Baas pitched in relief and allowed one walk while recording three outs and faced four batters. Tony Asta went an inning and a third and surrendered one hit with two strikeouts and got the win.
Kyle Davis, Tony Asta and Alex Brown all had two singles each and Brown and Asta along with Josh Bowers had two runs batted in. Travis Dekkers had a double and a runs scored.
Dordt is now 3-2 and will face Trinity in game two of the doubleheader.
