Dordt College Baseball vs. Northwestern

(Orange City, Iowa) Northwestern banged the ball around for 15 hits and beat the Dordt College Defenders 9-3 in game one of their doubleheader in Orange City on Saturday afternoon.

Northwestern got a run in the first and then tacked on two more in the second before being retired on a line out to first base and Travis Dekkers was able to force Curtis Bomgaars out before he could get back to the bag.

Dordt's first run came on their first hit against Mike Zoellner, a homerun by Ben Fife, to lead off the third inning.

Northwestern scored two more in the fourth and put the game out of reach with four in the fifth inning getting a three run homerun by Brad Payne for the majority of the damage. Dordt got two in their half of the seventh when Travis Dekkers and Kyle Davis had back to back singles and Morgan Halpert walked to load the bases. Zoellner was relieved by Eddie Pantzlaff who surrendered two fielder's choices that got two runs in before retiring the side.

Dordt was outhit 15-3 with Fife's homerun accounting for one and Dekkers and Davis getting the other two with their singles.Mike Zoellner was the winning pitcher while allowing three runs on three hits and struck out eight. Patrick Sinnema took the loss with 15 hits allowed and nine runs. He struck out two and was relieved by Eric Torgerson who retired the three batters he faced in the sixth. Northwestern's Steve Englund was 3-4 with two singles and a double. Brad Payne was 3-4 with two singles and a homerun. The loss knocks Dordt out of the hunt for a post season berth in the GPAC playoffs.
