Dordt College Baseball vs. Sioux Falls

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Sioux Falls Cougars earned a 7-2 win in game two of their doubleheader with the Dordt College Defenders on Friday night in Sioux Center to take a sweep of the Defenders in the final home games of the season at Open Space Park.
Dordt gave up two runs in the first and never got closer than three after that in falling to 8-14 in the league.
Sioux Falls scored in the first when Cody Burgener knocked in a run on a fielder's choice and he was later knocked in by a James Borges double. Two more runs came in the third inning on a Burgener homerun to make it 4-0. An unearned run in the fifth made it 5-0 before Dordt could answer with a run in their half of the frame. Kyle Davis reached on an error and then advanced to second on a Zach Staudt single. An Eric Torgerson fly ball to right got Davis to third and he scored on a wild pitch. Dordt got one more in the sixth when Travis Feekes singled and advanced to third on a failed pickoff attempt. Feekes then scored on a Josh Bowers fly out to centerfield.
Sioux Falls scored two for insurance in the seventh and secured the 7-2 win.
Sioux Falls outhit the Defenders 6-3 with Jordan Ahrendt getting the win while striking out six in six innings and allowed three hits. Jensen Callaway took the loss after working six innings and allowed five hits and five runs--two of which were earned and he struck out three. Jake Slings pitched the final inning for Dordt and walked one and struck out one while allowing two runs.
Dordt's three hits came from Feekes and Zach Staudt with singles and a Tony Asta double. Sioux Falls' Burgener was 1-3 with three runs scored and three runs batted in.
Dordt is now 12-25 overall and 8-14 in the conference while Sioux Falls concludes the regular season with a 32-16 overall record and a 19-5 conference mark. Dordt will face Northwestern on Saturday at 1:00 in Orange City in the regular season finale.
