Dordt College Baseball vs. Sioux Falls

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defenders couldn't overcome a five run third inning that saw the Sioux Falls Cougars extend their lead to 6-0 on the way to a 7-3 win in game one of their doubleheader in conference play. The Defenders made it interesting before the game ended but couldn't get the tioely hit to draw closer.
Sioux Falls got a run in the second on a Cody Burgener homerun. The Cougars then scored another five in the third, taking advantage of two-two out walks and a three run homerun by Todd Neu to do the bulk of the damage.
Dordt got on the board with a run in the fifth when Morgan Halpert walked and eventually came around to score on a passed ball. Sioux Falls got that run back with a double by James Borges to lead the inning off and he scored on a ground out by Neu.
The hosts put together a threat in the sixth with Josh Bowers singling in a run and he advanced to second when Travis Dekkers reached on an error. Phillip Sears then clubbed a long single that scored Bowers. Dekkers eventually scored on a walk to Trey Schneider that kept the bases loaded but the Dordt threat ended on a strikeout.
Dordt's Bryan Diemer took the loss after working five and a third innings with six hits and seven runs allowed with three strikeouts and three walks issued. Eric Torgerson worked a scoreless sixth and seventh. Kenny Tomek was the winner with four hits allowed and one run given up with four strikeouts and two walks allowed in five innings.
Dordt outhit the visitors 7-6 with Tony Asta going 2-4 with two singles. Josh Bowers was 1-4 with a single and Phillip Sears was 1-2 with a single and a run batted in. Trey Schneider got credit for a run batted in with a bases loaded walk.
