Dordt College Baseball vs. Concordia
April 27, 2010
(Seward, Nebraska) The Dordt College Defender baseball overcame six errors for an 8-7 win in game two of their doubleheader with Concordia on Tuesday night. Ironically the Defenders scored the tying and winning run on the only error Concordia committed the entire day.
Concordia got three runs in the first--all of them unearned and were up 5-0 before Dordt scored a run in the bottom of the third inning with Kyle Davis delivering a one out single. After another out was recorded Davis stole second and scored on a Tony Asta double. Dordt tied the game with four runs in the fourth when Zach Staudt singled and Trey Schneider followed with a single. A wild pitch advanced both runners into scoring position and Alex Brown knocked them in with a double. Travis Feekes was issued a base on balls and eventually scored on a Kyle Davis triple to tie it at 5-5.
Concordia scored two in the top of the fifth off of reliever Eric Torgerson and the Defendders got one run back in the home half of the inning with Travis Dekkers walking and Zach Staudt singled. A Trey Schneider ground out scored Dekkers and got Dordt to within 7-6.
A scoreless sixth followed and Concordia got nothing in the seventh off of Tony Asta. Dordt's first two batters in the inning were retired. Staudt hung in for a single and Morgan Halpert was walked. With the winning run on base Ben Fife hit a ball that the rightfielder ccouldn't handle and the two runs scored with Fife ending up on second. The play was ruled an error.
Dordt's Tony Asta got the win in relief while walking one and allowing no hits in one inning. Patrick Sinnema took the start and went three innings and allowed five runs on five hits--none of the runs were earned and he struck out three. Eric Torgerson went three inning and allowed two runs on two hits and walked two with one strikeout and one of the runs was earned.
Staudt was 3-4 with one run scored. Kyle Davis had a single and triple with two runs batted in and a run scored. Tony Asta was 2-4 with a run batted in. Dekkers, Schneider and Brown all had base hits and Brown got credit for two runs batted in.
Dordt is now 12-23 overall and 8-12 in the conference while Concordia is 12-32 and 9-11. Dordt was the home team with the games originally scheduled to be played in Sioux Center.
