Dordt College Baseball vs. Mount Marty

(Yankton, South Dakota) Mount Marty swept the Dordt Defenders in baseball action Friday night with a 13-9 decision in game two of their doubleheader. The Lancers grabbed the early lead with two runs, one in the first and one in the second but relinquished the lead when Dordt plated four runs in the top of the third. All the runs came with two outs when Travis Feekes walked and scored on a Josh Bowers double. Travis Dekkers singled in Bowers and Tony Asta doubled in Dekkers for the third run. A Kyle Davis single through the left side of the infield gave Dordt a 4-2 lead.
Mount Marty came back with five in the home half of the inning to take the lead for good on five hits and they stranded two.
Dordt cut the 7-4 lead down by a run with a Phillip Sears double followed by a Ben Fife single that scored Sears. Mount Marty erupted for one more big inning with six in the fourth and Dordt mustered four in the fifth when Trey Schneider connected for a grand slam with Dekkers, Asta and Davis aboard.
Neither team scored in their final two at-bats.
Dordt was out hit 16-9 in the loss and stranded three while Mount Marty left eight on the basepaths.
Dordt's Jensen Callaway took the loss after working two and two-thirds innings and gave up seven runs while striking out three and allowing eight hits. Jake Slings and Brad Trimm pitched in relief with Trimm allowing three runs on six hits, three walks and struck out three.
Asta and Bowers each had two hits for the Defenders, a double and single each. Asta and Dekkers each scored two runs and Schneider had four runs batted in with his bases clearing homerun.
Dordt falls to 8-20 overall and 4-10 in the league while Mount Marty, the conference leader, is 25-11 overall and 12-2 in the GPAC. Dordt will face Nebraska Wesleyan on Saturday at 1:00 in Lincoln, Nebraska in a doubleheader.
