Dordt College Baseball vs. Mount Marty

(Yankton, South Dakota) Dordt College battled but came up short in game one of their doubleheader with Mount Marty on Friday afternoon in Yankton, South Dakota. The Defenders scored three runs in the top of the seventh to threaten but lost a 4-3 decision to the conference frontrunner.
Mount Marty got a run in the first and another in the fourth before tacking on two for insurance in the fifth frame. The Defenders got their three runs in the sixth when Phillip Sears pinch hit and slugged a three run homerun with Morgan Halpert and Zach Staudt on base. Halpert got on with a single and Staudt an error. the homerun came with two outs and winning pitcher Trey Krier struck the next batter out he faced to seal the win.
Dordt also threatened in the sixth when Travis Feekes reached second but was stranded there when Krier recorded two strikeouts.
Dordt was out hit 9-5 with Feekes going 2-4. Singles by Morgan Halpert and Eric Torgerson accounted for two more hits and Sears slugged his homerun. Bryan Diemer went the distance and allowed nine hits, struck out one and walked one while going the distance with four runs allowed--three of which were earned.
