Dordt College Baseball vs. Hastings
April 10, 2010
(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College baseball team scored a come from behind, nine inning win over the Hastings College Broncos in game one of their doubleheader on Saturday, April 10 in Sioux Center, Iowa. Dordt trailed 3-1 at one point but forced extra innings and won a 4-3 decision to snap a six game conference losing streak.
Dordt scored first when Travis Feekes singled to lead off the third and advanced on a bunt by Kyle Davis. After a ground out advanced Feekes to third Tony Asta singled him in.
Hastings struck back with three runs in the next half inning when Patrick Sinnema worked into trouble. A walk followed by a hit batsmen put runners at first and second. Sinnema then gave up one of the four hits he allowed the entire game, a three run homerun to Mack Land that made it 3-1. The scored remained that way until a Kyle Davis homerun cleared the scoreboard in left-centerfield to make it 3-2 in the fifth. Dordt continued the threat but left runners at second and third. After a scoreless top of the sixth Morgan Halpert led the bottom half of the inning off with a triple and eventually scored on a Trey Schneider line drive through a drawn in infield.
Tied 3-3 the Broncos loaded the bases with a hit batsman and a single. A sacrifice bunt moved the runners to second third. A walk loaded the bases but a grounder back to Sinnema on the mound allowed the Defenders to get an out on the force at home. With two down Decker Brown struck out looking to end the inning. Hastings stranded two in the eighth as well while Dordt left one on in the bottom of that inning. Dordt finally broke through with the winning run in the ninth when Feekes singled and advanced to third on an error charged to the rightfielder that got through his legs to the fence. Kyle Davis and Travis Dekkers were walked intentonally to load the bases and Tony Asta banged a single up the middle to win the game 4-3.
Dordt out hit Hastings 11-4 with Hastings committing three errors. Patrick Sinnema went the distance and allowed three runs on four hits with six strikeouts and four walks. Mack Land was the losing pitcher in relief and allowed one run on three hits and worked two and a third innings.
