Dordt College Baseball vs. Dakota Wesleyan

(Mitchell, South Dakota) The Dordt College baseball team lost a 9-8 game to Dakota Wesleyan in Mitchell, South Dakota on Thursday afternoon. The game was the first of a doubleheader with the Tigers.
Dordt grabbed a 3-0 lead in the first inning when the Defenders loaded the bases on a pair of singles and a walk. The first run came on an error by the Wesleyan catcher on a strikeout and Kyle Davis delivered a double with two outs that scored Travis Dekkers and Josh Bowers. The Tigers got a run back in the second inning but Dordt struck right back with a run of their own in the top of the third with Dekkers doubling and Zach Staudt singled. A Trey Schneider fly ball scored Dekkers. Another run in the fourth made it 5-1 with Josh Bowers doubling in Travis Feekes.
Wesleyan got to Dordt's Jensen Callaway in the fourth and knocked him out of the game with a leadoff homerun. Bryan Diemer came on in relief and surrendered two runs and Dordt was clinging to a 5-4 lead when the frame ended. Dordt pushed in front by two with a Tony Asta double and had an 8-4 lead after scoring two more runs in the sixth on a homerun by Morgan Halpert. Dordt lost the lead in the sixth with Wesleyan capitalizing on one hit, three walks and two hit batsmen for five runs.
Dordt managed to outhit the hosts 10-8 and got two hits from Josh Bowers with a run scored and run knocked in. Zach Staudt also had two hits with a run scored and Travis Feekes and Travis Dekkers both had two runs scored on a hit and a walk. Davis and Halpert both got credit for two runs batted in. Tony Asta took the loss, working the final two innings and was charged with five runs--four of them earned with three walks and one strikeout. Jensen Callaway started the game and went three-plus innings and allowed two runs on two hits. Bryan Diemer pitched one inning and allowed two runs on two hits.
