March 30, 2010
(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defenders lost their second one run game of the day with a 12-11 loss to Mayville State in a doubleheader played in Sioux Center, Iowa.
Dordt led briefly but costly miscues left Dordt one run short in the twinbill. The Comets scored first with three runs in their first at-bat but Dordt got those runs back when Morgan Halpert ripped a line drive homerun inside the leftfield foul pole to tie the game in the second inning. Dordt took a brief one run lead when Travis Dekkers slugged a homerun to lead the third inning off but the lead held only until the fourth inning when Mayville got three runs across. Mayville State then plated another four runs in the fifth and were up 10-4 when Dordt pieced together a two run fifth inning with Dekkers delivering a double to score Travis Feekes and a Staudt ground out eventually scored Dekkers. A run in the sixth by the Comets made it 11-6. Down to their final six outs, the Defenders got four runs in the sixth with Josh Bowers delivering a three run homerun that cleared the fence in centerfield. Down one, the Defenders allowed a Mayville State run in the top of the seventh and could only get one run back in the home half of the seventh inning with the tying run stranded at second after Eric Torgerson doubled in Kyle Davis.
