Dordt College Baseball vs. Mayville State

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defenders came back from two four run deficits but weren't able to turn the corner and lost a 7-6 decision to Mayville State in non-conference baseball on Tuesday afternoon in Sioux Center, Iowa.

Dordt fell behind 4-0 and 6-2 before tying the game with after six innings. Dordt scored two in the fourth to cut the 4-0 lead in half with Tony Asta scoring on a throwing error when Kyle Davis stole second base and Zach Staudt delivered a sacrifice fly to score Davis. Both Davis and Asta reached initially on singles. The Comets got the two runs back almost immediately with two in the fifth but Dordt came back with two in the fifth when Asta doubling in Bowers. A Staudt single got another run in and it was a 6-4 game.

Dordt pulled even with two in the sixth on a Josh Bowers homerun after Travis Feekes had tripled with one out. Dordt was unable to get the go ahead run in after Travis Dekkers reached on a double and Mayville State broke the tie with a run in the seventh on a triple to right field that got the run in. Kyle Davis reached for Dordt in the seventh but a double play off an attempted bunt stopped the rally and Dordt fell 7-6.

Dordt was outhit 13-11 with Travis Feekes, Josh Bowers, Tony Asta and Staudt all getting two hits. Bowers knocked in two and Staudt had a pair of runs batted in and Asta had a pair of runs scored.

Mark Nyhoff took the loss while allowing one run on three hits with one walk and one strikeout in two and a third innings of work. Eric Torgerson went the first four and two-third innings and allowed six runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts and three bases on balls.
