Dordt College Baseball vs. Morningside

(Sioux City, Iowa) Morningside dropped Dordt College in non-conference baseball action on Wednesday night in Sioux City, Iowa. A big first inning gave Morningside the runs they needed and a five run fifth inning gave the Mustangs insurance in the seven inning decision.
Dordt got two in the first inning when Travis Dekkers singled in Dillon Peters after Peters had doubled. Ben Fife later knocked in Dekkers with a single. Morningside erupted for nine runs in the first inning and chased Dordt starter Eric Torgerson.
Down 9-2 Dordt started chip away and got a run in the third on a Josh Bowers double and a Ben Fife run scoring single. After a Morningside run in the third the Defenders scored another in the fourth on a Feekes double and a Dekkers single. Morningside plated five runs on five hits in the fifth and Dordt got their final runs in the top of the sixth when Morgan Halpert doubled and Travis Feekes connected for his fourth homerun of the season.
Feekes was 2-4 with two runs scored and two runs batted in in the loss with a double and a homerun. Travis Dekkers knocked in two with a pair of hits in four at-bats and Ben Fife was 2-3 with two runs batted in. Josh Bowers set a new single season doubles record at Dordt College with his 13th double of the season, surpassing Kevin Van Otterloo's 2000 season total of 12 and Morgan Halpert, Dillon Peters and Eric Anderson each had base hits as Dordt was out hit 16-11.
Eric Torgerson was charged with the loss while Brad Trimm worked three and 2/3 innings of work and allowed nine hits and six runs. Chase Dieleman came on in relief and allowed two hits with two runs and struck out three.
Dordt concludes the regular season with a pair of doubleheaders this weekend when they travel to Sioux Falls on Friday night for a date with the University of Sioux Falls and conclude the season when they face Northwestern on Saturday at 1:00 in Sioux Center.
