(Minneapolis, Minnesota (Metrodome)) Grant Wall belted a homerun in the top of the eighth inning of Dordt and Northwestern's doubleheader at the Metrodome to give the Red Raiders a sweep of the non-conference twinbill played early Saturday morning. The homerun snapped a 1-1 deadlock and saddled Bryan Diemer with the hardluck loss on the mound.
Northwestern scored one run in the top of the first and Dordt answered with a solo homerun by Travis Feekes that cleared the fence in left-centerfield. The hit was one of two Feekes had for the day.
"Travis crushed it," said Dordt coach Jeff Schouten. "He had a great weekend in centerfield for us as well."
Dordt's chances were limited after the first inning homerun with Dillon Peters, Evan Pheneger and Morgan Halpert all going 1-3. Eric Torgerson was 1-2 at the plate and Feekes was 2-4 officially.
"We struggled to get the big hit," said Schouten. "It's not surprising because the pitching is usually ahead of the hitting at this point. I thought overall this weekend we had pretty solid performances."
Diemer went the distance for Dordt and allowed six hits with two earned runs, two walks and seven strikeouts.
"Bryan did a great job pitching," said Schouten.
Dordt is 0-4 start the season and will have three weeks off before travelling to Manhattan Christian in Manhattan, Kansas on February 27 and 28 for a pair of doubleheaders.
