Dordt College Baseball vs. Midland Lutheran

(Fremont, Nebraska) Midland Lutheran swept the Dordt Defenders in game two of their doubleheader on Monday night, April 20 in Fremont, Nebraska. The Warriors claimed the six inning victory by an 18-8 margin.
Dordt led 8-6 after three and a half innings but gave up five runs in the bottom of the fifth and couldn't get another run in giving up three more in the fifth and four more in the sixth.
Dordt got their first run in the top of the first when Travis Feekes reached on an error and stole second base. Travis Dekkers knocked Feekes in with a double and made it 1-0. Three Midland Lutheran runs in the bottom of the inning forced Dordt to come from behind and the Defenders responded with four in the second. Eric Anderson and Zach Staudt singled. Travis Feekes cleared the bases with a triple and scored on a Dillon Peters double. Travis Dekkers ended the scoring in the second with his second double of the game.
The Defenders got up 7-3 after their at-bat in the third when Ben Fife singled and Anderson walked. A Zach Staudt single loaded the bases and Travis Feekes knocked in two with a double. Midland Lutheran started their comeback in the bottom of the third with three runs to trail 7-6. Dordt pushed the lead to two runs with a Ben Fife doubled that knocked a run in but the four error fourth inning opened the door for Midland Lutheran to score five runs and the Warriors got more offense in the fifth and sixth for the final of 18-6.
Dordt was outhit 16-11 with Bryan Diemer taking the loss in 3 2/3 innings of work. The junior was saddled with 11 runs--six of them earned and walked three while striking out two. Anthony Vecchio got the win in relief for Midland Lutheran.
Dekkers was 3-4 with two runs batted in and two doubles. Feekes knocked in four while going 2-4 with a triple and a double. Fife and Staudt went 2-3 with Fife knocking a double and Dillon Peters and Eric Anderson were 1-4 and 1-3 respectively.
Dordt is now 9-29 overall and 3-17 in the league. Midland Lutheran improves to 21-25 and 11-9. The Defenders travel to Morningside for a single, nine-inning game on Wednesday night in non-conference play. Dordt travels to Sioux Falls this Friday night and conclude the regular season with a doubleheader against Northwestern at home on Saturday, April 25.
