Dordt College Baseball vs. Mount Marty

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender baseball team used a seven run third inning to take a 9-4, non-conference decision over the Mount Marty Lancers in non-conference baseball action on Tuesday night, April 14 in Sioux Center, Iowa. The game was a scheduled nine inning affair.
Mount Marty struck for a run in the bottom of the second inning when they capitalized on two errors by the Defenders and got an unearned run off of Dordt starter Travis Dekkers.
Dordt got the run back plus six in the third inning when Mark Van Weelden singled and Dillon Peters followed with a single. Travis Feekes was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Travis Dekkers delivered a run scoring single and Josh Bowers walked with the bases loaded for the go ahead run. Evan Pheneger was hit by a pitch to push a run across and Eric Torgerson doubled in a pair and Morgan Halpert followed with a single that plated two more runs. When the inning ended Dordt had scored seven runs on six hits.
Dordt got another run in the fourth when Travis Feekes was hit by a pitch for the second time and stole second base. Feekes moved up a base on a Travis Dekkers ground out and Pheneger pushed him in. Mount Marty got two in the home half of the fourth inning and another in the fifth to make it 8-4 and the Defenders ended the scoring with a run in the seventh on a pair of doubles. Josh Bowers led the inning off with a two-bagger and Morgan Halpert delivered his second hit of the game with two outs in the frame.
The win was awarded to Travis Dekkers who pitched the first two innings and didn't allow a hit and faced seven batters. Ryan Baas, Brad Trimm, Chase Dieleman and Kyle Dieleman all pitched at least one inning in the game.
Pheneger and Halpert both had two hits with Halpert knocking in three and Pheneger two. Dordt's other hits came from Peters, Dekkers, Bowers--who also walked and knocked in two, Torgerson who had two runs batted in, Zach Staudt and Van Weelden.
Dordt is now 3-13 in the league and 9-25 overall while Mount Marty is 10-6 in the GPAC and 21-18 overall.
Mount Marty was considered the home team for the game that was originally scheduled to be played in Yankton, South Dakota.
Dordt will travel to Seward, Nebraska to face Concordia on Friday and is scheduled to meet Midland Lutheran in Fremont, Nebraska on Saturday.
