Dordt College Baseball vs. Briar Cliff

(Sioux City, Iowa) Briar Cliff scored four runs in the first inning and held on for a 7-5 win over the Dordt Defenders in Great Plains Athletic Conference play on Friday afternoon in Sioux City, Iowa.
The Chargers scored four in the first and one in the second before Dordt got on the board with a run in the third when Eric Torgerson and Dillon Peters singled and moved up and Torgerson moved around to score on a pair of passed balls. Dordt made it 5-3 in the fourth when Eric Anderson walked with two outs and Josh Bowers doubled. Torgerson then delivered a single that scored two. Briar Cliff answered with a run in the fourth and fifth innings to lead 7-3 and Dordt made it interesting when Evan Pheneger was hit by a pitch with two outs and moved up when Anderson reached on an error. The Defenders got a run on a Josh Bowers single and Torgerson singled in another run. The inning ended on a fly out with the tying run on base.
Dordt out hit the hots 11-7 and got two singles from Dillon Peters and three hits and three runs batted in by Eric Torgerson in the eighth spot in the order. Josh Bowers delivered for a single and double and Travis Feekes, Travis Dekkers, Ben Fife and Zach Staudt all had base hites.
Nate De Wit took the loss with seven hits allowed and five earned runs given up with five walks and three strikeouts. Stephen Keane was the winning pitcher and no Charger had multiple hits.
