Dordt College Baseball vs. Dana

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dana Vikings made it a sweep of Dordt College in conference baseball Saturday afternoon in Sioux Center, Iowa. The Vikings took advantage of several Dordt defensive miscues to take their seventh win of the season.

The doubleheader was played under sunny and brisk conditions and the two teams erupted for seven runs in the first frame after playing through a 2-1 decision in game one.

Dordt held a 4-3 lead after one and a 5-3 lead after two. The Vikings struck for five runs in the third inning and never trailed again, leading by as many as 10-5 before Dordt cut it down to 10-6 after five and 11-8 after six. Dana got a run for insurance in the seventh.

Dana's three runs in the first inning came on three Dordt errors and one hit. Dordt answered with an Eric Torgerson two-run single in the first and Ben Fife also had an rbi single in the fame. Fife also figured into the second inning run when he knocked Dillon Peters in after a double by the senior from Denver, Colorado. Torgerson's homerun was a solo shot in the fifth and Dordt's scoring ended with Peters doubling and scoring on an error by the Dana catcher and Morgan Halpert singled in Dekkers.

Dordt out hit the visitors 14-11 with Ben Fife getting three hits in four official at-bats with two runs batted in and a run scored. Dillon Peters scored three runs and had two doubles and Eric Torgerson was 2-3 with a homerun and three runs batted in. Travis Feekes scored a run and singled. Travis Dekkers was 2-5 with two runs scored and a double while Evan Pheneger, Morgan Halpert, Phillip Sears and Eric Anderson each had base knocks.

Chase Dieleman takes the loss despite giving up just three earned runs. All totaled the freshman was saddled with 11 runs in five and a third innings of work. Dieleman allowed 11 hits before giving way to Ryan Baas who recorded the final five outs and gave up one run.

Dordt is 1-5 in the league and 6-16 overall. The Vikings are 2-4 in the GPAC and 7-16 overall. Dordt is scheduled to host Morningside on Monday, March 30 at 1:00 in conference doubleheader.
