Dordt College Baseball vs. Central Christian

(McPherson, Kansas) The Dordt Defender baseball team scored a non-conference win over Central Christian (Kansas) 18-13 in a scheduled nine inning contest.

The Defenders plated six runs in the first inning when Dillon Peters doubled down the leftfield line for two runs. Evan Pheneger doubled in another run. Zach Staudt singled in one more run and Morgan Halpert doubled into left center to plate the final run of the inning. Dordt scored the runs on six hits.

The hosts got three back in the bottom of the inning and Dordt got another run in the second on a Central Christian error. Leading 7-3, the Defenders got three runs each in the third and fourth innings. Travis Feekes had a two run homerun in the third and Dordt scored their three in the fourth by virtue of thre hits and a Central Christian error.

Dordt couldn't shake Central Christian and were up 13-10 going into the top of the ninth when they scored five more runs. Dillon Peters knocked in a run with single to centerfield. Travis Dekkers pushed through two and Even Pheneger had an rbi single. Dordt had five runs on five hits in the inning and then held on for the 18-13 win when Central Christian scored three in the ninth inning.

Pheneger was 3-4 with four runs batted on a double and two singles. Travis Feekes, Dillon Peters, Travis Dekkers, Eric Torgerson, Zach Staudt a Morgan Halpert had two hits each and Feekes had three runs with a homerun and a single. Dekkers had four runs batted in with his two doubles.

Ryan Baas worked five and a third innings with 12 hits allowed and six runs--all earned. Baas had three walks and four strikeouts. Baas got credit for the win.

Dordt faces Tabor (Kansas) on Tuesday before returning home from their Spring Break trip. The Tabor game will be a single nine innings contest.
