(Peru, Nebraska) The Dordt Defender baseball team fought back from a 3-0 and 4-1 deficits on Saturday afternoon but dropped a 5-4 decision to the Peru State Bobcats in Peru, Nebraska on Saturday, March 6. The Bobcats forced a run across in the bottom of the seventh inning after Dordt had fought back to tie it at 4-4 in the visitor's half of the frame.

Peru State got to Dordt starter Chase Dieleman for two in the third and one in the fourth before Dordt got on the board with a single by Zach Staudt. Staudt's run scoring hit was set up by an Eric Torgerson single and his courtesy runner, Phillip Sears, stole second base to get in scoring position for Staudt. Another run in the bottom of the fifth put Dordt behind 4-1 but the visitors didn't go quietly, getting two runs in the top of the sixth when Ben Fife banged out a single that scored Dillon Peters and Evan Pheneger. Peters had reached with one of three singles he had for the game and Pheneger was on by virtue of a Peru State error.

Down 4-3 in the top of the seventh the Defenders, down to their final out, got a triple off the bat of Josh Bowers and Peters knocked him in with a single.

Peru State won the game with a bases loaded single in the bottom of the seventh inning with one out off of relief pitcher Kyle Dieleman.

Dieleman was saddled with the loss despite allowing just one run on three hits in the final inning and a third of work. Chase Dieleman started the mound and allowed six hits, four runs--two of which were earned and walked none while striking out two before giving way to his older brother in relief.

Dordt had eight hits with Peters going 3-4 with a run batted in. Travis Dekkers and Ben Fife each had base hits with Fife getting credit for a pair of runs batted in. Torgerson, Staudt and Bowers accounted for the other Dordt hits with Bowers recording the lone extra base hit for Dordt in the game.

Dordt is now 2-8 and will travel to Oklahoma at the end of the coming week to face Hillsdale Baptist on Friday and Saturday, March 13 and 14.
